A fantastic rainbow of colours to choose from in this range of vegan, harmful-chemical-free nail polishes 🌈
Zao Nail polishes are Vegan certified and '10 Free' guaranteed, meaning without many of the toxic ingredients normally found in nail polish, such as toluene, formaldehyde, formaldehyde resin, synthetic camphor, dibutyl phthalate, paraben, xylene, styrene, benzophenone and rosin (see below for more information on these). 84% of ingredients are bio-sourced (derived from potatoes, corn, wheat and manioc).
They offer excellent hold, a high-gloss finish and fast drying. The application is facilitated by their broad and flat brush which allows a perfect diffusion of the polish on the whole nail.
Bamboo on the outside: bamboo on the inside! The screw tops are made from bamboo meaning a lot less plastic waste, plus the nail polishes are enriched with bamboo rhizome macerate. This is rich in organic silica which helps to fortify the nail.
Apply layers of nail polish until the desired depth of colour is achieved. We recommend using the Zao Duo Top & Base Coat before and after applying your colour. If your nails need some extra TLC, we recommend Zao's Nail Hardener and Nail & Cuticle Care.

Typical Harmful Nail Polish Ingredients (Zao is free from these 💚)
Dibutylphthalate: Endocrine disruptor. Irritation of the eyes (lacrimation, conjunctivitis) and upperrespiratory tract (nasopharyngitis, bronchitis possible). If ingested or inhaled: headache, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, hematuria, dizziness, photophobia (sensitivity to light) and nephrotoxicity.
Toluene: Neurotoxic. Its vapors may be irritating to the upper respiratory tract and eyes above 100 ppm. Following repeated or prolonged contact, this product has a degreasing effect on the skin. It can cause redness, peeling and cracking. Inhalation of vapours may cause central nervous system depression.
Formaldehyde: Carcinogen. In 2004, IARC has classified formaldehyde as a carcinogen to humans (Group 1). In Europe, it is classified as "category 3 carcinogen" (possibly carcinogenic to humans), but after a more severe proposal by France, this classification is under review.
Xylene: Irritating and nerve-affecting. This product causes mild eye irritation and moderate skin irritation. Inhalation of vapours may cause central nervous system depression. Exposure to vapors may cause irritation of the eyes and upper respiratory tract. Following repeated or prolonged contact, this product has a degreasing effect on the skin. It can cause redness, scaling and cracking.
Colophony (rosin): Irritating and respiratory disorders. Several cases of skin sensitisation are also reported. The cases are isolated but quite varied: beauticians who applied depilatory waxes containing rosin, as well as artists who reacted to their stage makeup.
Synthetic Camphor: Irritating to eyes, upper respiratory tract if inhaled: decreased frequency of breathing, slow heart rate, worsened symptoms if inhaled in large doses.
