Seedball Wildflower Grab Bag - Edible Flowers

£14.95
Description

Grow your own edible flowers with these easy to grow seed balls

A pretty mix of native wildflowers whose flowers can be added to salads, used as garnishes, frozen in ice cubes or brewed into teas.

Each bag of Edible Flowers contains 100 seed balls, made from a mix of evening primrose, lady’s smock, shepherd’s purse, wild garlic, borage and red clover. This is enough to cover 5 metre square in a garden bed or 15-25 medium sized pots (leave at least 10cm between each ball).

The bags are plastic free (made from paper) and can be home composted. With their colourful designs they can also work nicely as a wildlife gardening gift.

Best scattered from early Spring until late Autumn.

Primrose (Primula vulgaris): Flowers and leaves can be used in salads, as a green vegetable, or in tea to treat anxiety, insomnia, and migraines. Roots can be used to make cough syrups and in arthritis and rheumatism treatments. Season: March to June.

Lady's Smock (Cardamine Pratensis): The leaves taste of mustard or wasabi, and the flowers taste like cress with hints of sweetness and spice. The leaves can be a bit small and fiddly to collect - basal leaves at the bottom of the plant are easier. Leaves and flowers are lovely in salad. A tea made with the leaves of this plant was often used in the past as a Spring tonic or for menstrual problems. Season: January to December.

Shepherd's Purse (Capsella Bursa-Pastoris): The leaves can be eaten raw or cooked. The flower tips can be eaten as a snack, and the dried flowers and leaves can be used as a tea. Some of the tea can be used on a cotton bud to stop nosebleeds. Season: March to November.

Wild Garlic (Allium ursinum): The plant can be used raw or cooked. It's best to leave the roots alone, as the leaves are tastier and there are no bulbs. This plant is known to reduce high blood pressure and cholesterol levels, and like bulb garlic, it has more medicinal claims than space to print them. Season: February to June.

Borage (Borago officinalis): A wonderfully useful as well as decorative plant. The young leaves and vivid blue flowers of this annual herb have a fresh cucumber-like flavour, so are often used in salads, soups, chilled drinks or simply as a garnish. The flowers attract bees and other beneficial insects, while the foliage has been known to reduce attacks of hornworm when planted between tomato plants. At the end of the year, add the plants to the compost heap as they will promote many beneficial minerals. Flowers: April to September

Pigut (Conopodium majus): Pignuts take a few years to grow. They taste a little like a sweet chestnut or hazelnut crossed with a radish. The root must be carefully followed to find the nut at the end. It often bends 90 degrees before the nut and snaps off very easily. Season: March to June.

Red Clover (Trifolium pratense): Red clover can be used in a variety of dishes, including salads, teas, jams, and desserts. Red clover flowers are high in protein and contain B vitamins and vitamin C. Flowers: May to September

Created by conservation scientists and 100% British made, Seedball is a unique innovation to help more people grow bee and butterfly-friendly wildflowers. They are manufactured in-house using a mixture of UK-native seeds, clay, peat-free compost and chilli powder to create a protective casing against seed predators (e.g. birds and ants).

They’re incredibly easy to use - scatter (no digging!) on top of soil, and with rain and warm sun, the seeds will grow!

Emily & Ana, the creators of Seedball, are on a mission to help increase the abundance of British wildflowers and wildlife that depend upon them. They believe that if we can all better use whatever space we have available to us (whether a back garden, balcony, window box, little patio etc) we can together have a hugely beneficial impact on our local ecosystems.

They want Seedball to inspire a wildlife gardening revolution while providing a very handy way of going about it! Conservation is in the heart and soul of Seedball and one day we dream to fund their own Seedball wildflower reserves.
